Mr. Toad (Karl Rove) on Torture and Pelosi

Mr. Toad

In classic GOP/Fox Noise style, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride continued this morning in Rupert Murdoch‘s Wall Street Journal, with Karl Rove’s leading question (you know, the ones right-wingers ask assuming you know the answer),  “(Was) Nancy accomplice to ‘torture.?'”

karlroveblackIn an accusatory article (diatribe), Rove suggests that Ms. Pelosi is a liar (takes one to know one, anybody?).  Now, I don’t know what Pelosi knew or when she knew it.  I do understand that in the cloak and dagger setting subsequent to 9-11, in Bush’s “through the looking glass, Bizarro-World” administration, things may not have been as represented.  And (right-wing/Fox  suggestively leading question on my part) who would know more about lying than the pudgy, pasty Rove? Okay, you got me…Cheney.

The ever-inquisitive Mr. Toad, licking what’s left of what were once his eyebrows, then raised a rapid-fire barrage of leading GOP/Fox questions, of course, unanswered.  He reports, we decide…

So is the speaker of the House lying about what she knew and when?

And, if so, what will Democrats do about it?

If Mrs. Pelosi considers the enhanced interrogation techniques to be torture, didn’t she have a responsibility to complain at the time, introduce legislation to end the practices, or attempt to deny funding for the CIA’s use of them?

If she knew what was going on and did nothing, does that make her an accessory to a crime of torture, as many Democrats are calling enhanced interrogation?

Are these and other similarly minded Democrats willing to have Mrs. Pelosi thrown into their stew of torture conspirators as an accomplice?

Rove surmises,

“It is clear that after the 9/11 attacks Mrs. Pelosi was briefed on enhanced interrogation techniques and the valuable information they produced. She not only agreed with what was being done, she apparently pressed the CIA to do more.

But when political winds shifted, Mrs. Pelosi seems to have decided to use enhanced interrogation as an issue to attack Republicans. It is disgraceful that Democrats who discovered their outrage years after the fact are now braying for disbarment of the government lawyers who justified EITs and the prosecution of Bush administration officials who authorized them. Mrs. Pelosi is hip-deep in dangerous waters, and they are rapidly rising.”

If ethics were C-4, Rove wouldn’t own enough to blow his nose.

I find it interesting that Rove et al are trying to shift the focus away from the people who authorized the torture to someone they might have TOLD they were torturing…as if hearing about it is worse than telling people to do it. Obviously, if Pelosi knew, she should have done something, but Cheney and friends are the real culprits here.

Quite. It’s typical playbook projection and diversion. They don’t care that the stakes are so high and in this case, they subverted our Constitution. These amoral, sanctimonious pricks did as they wanted, making up justification as they went to cover their asses. And now care only about not atoning, regardless of what precedent it sets. It’s all political with the GOP, always. Lives lost or not, it’s always measured in political capital.
